The Whimsy Pose beneath the Great Banyan Trees
From left to right: Molly, Jill, and Carolyn
Straub Park & Baywalk St. Petersburg, Florida
The Banyan Trees in St. Petersburg, Florida at Straub Park are an amazing site to behold. On this particular day my friend Jill was in Florida visiting with my sister Carolyn and me from Minnesota. We found a parking spot right in front of two of the most amazing Banyan Trees we had ever seen. Our intention for going to St. Petersburg was to have a look around the cute downtown area but that all changed the moment we got out of the car. We could feel the energy of the Banyan Trees calling to us. We headed straight for the trees. They were so magical. The thought of a book from my childhood called, "Go, Dog, Go," floated into my mind. It was a simple children's book where dogs of every shape, size, and color headed to one amazing tree for a big dog party on top of its branches.
We three ladies acted like children beneath these Banyan trees. We laughed. We talked. We imagined having tea parties beneath the trees. We took pictures.

I said to Carolyn and Jill, "This looks like the perfect spot to strike the whimsy pose!"
I explained the simple instructions of how to strike the whimsy pose which went something like this, "Make your eyes soft. Look to the right or left. Put 1, 2, or 3 fingers on your chin and think of something fun and magical!"
Molly demonstrates the whimsy pose.
Carolyn joins in the fun!
Jill is definitely having child-like fun!
What is Whimsy?
Here's the best thing yet! We were having so much fun beneath these trees it was contagious! A family consisting of two grandparents, a mother, father, and two little boys arrived beneath the tree. They were dressed up very nicely and we could tell they wanted to take a family photo beneath these great trees too.
As the father prepared to take a selfie photo I asked, "Would you like me to take a photo of all of you?"
"Sure," the father replied, "Thank you."
I stepped forward and snapped a few photos.
I then asked, "Would you like me to take a fun picture of all of you striking the whimsy pose?"
From behind me in a strong European accent I heard the grandfather say, "What is whimsy?"
His accent was so cute it made me chuckle. I cheerfully told him what I told Jill and Carolyn a short time earlier.
"All you have to do is make your eyes soft. Look to the right or left. Put 1, 2, or 3 fingers on your chin and think of something fun, magical, and whimsical!"
The family struck the whimsy pose. I snapped a few photos. And soon the entire group of us were laughing together! It was truly an AwEsOmE experience!
The Elephants Appear!
The elephant in the Banyan Tree
As we prepared to leave more magic happened! We were talking about how these trees feel like a community of elephants. They are so strong, wise, powerful, and grounding.
I said, "It's so cool that trees have 'trunks' just like elephants!"
And then, moments laters, we started seeing the elephants appearing in the tree before our eyes! Can you see the elephant head, eye, and trunk in this picture?! Amazing!
I hope some day you too can visit these magical trees, find the elephants that live within them. And don't forget to take a whimsy pose photo too! (Look at the bottom of this post for the exact location marker to find these amazing trees)
